Irish singer songwriter Ronan Furlong displays an approach to song writing that is refreshingly unique and instantly recognisable. Weaving a beguiling tapestry of intricate guitar work, idiosyncratic lyrics and heart-felt vocals, Ronan's songs are strikingly original, exploring a broad range of philosophical themes in a fresh and contemporary fashion.

The Glass Ceiling:

Great review of ‘Diotima’s Ascent’ by renowned music journalist Jackie Hayden for Hotpress:

Ronan: a renowned guitarist is regarded as one of the finest at his craft in Ireland and has received global airplay. The video for his song "Hoplite Armour", was nominated for International awards and the song reached Number 1 on the Irish iTunes chart!

Ronan’s new album ‘Diotima’s Ascent’ has made the charts in Hotpress

as one of their top 20 albums of this year 2019 – coming in at Number 19, following his previous album ‘Minerva’s Meddling’s success which also made the top 20 in 2017.

Editors Notes:

"Ronan has developed a style that is very much his own, shedding fresh light on ancient core themes of the human condition and re-exploring timeless narratives from a contemporary perspective. As a former student of famed Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriella, he has acquired a reputation as a guitarist of renown and uses his skills to enhance and compliment his songs using subtle lines and clever licks.

This highly original artist always produces unique, thoughtful music infused with melody and a style that is entirely his own. In a live setting he always provides an eclectic and energetic show and takes time to explain the underlying meaning of his unique songs to involve his audience in the performance."

Ronan’s last single ‘The Silver Torc’ was chosen by Irish hero MMA fighter Richard Kiely as his signature walkout music. Ronan played the song LIVE, in front of an anticipated 9,000 people when Richard fought London based Michael ‘Venom’ Page at the 3Arena, Dublin on 27th September, and to a global TV audience.

Richard quotes: ’I am a huge fan of Ronan Furlong's music and I am honoured that he allowed me to use his song for my walkout music. I needed a song that would match the fierce energy and fervour that the Irish crowd bring. When I heard The Silver Torc, I instantly knew I had found that song. After the opening chords hit, the song blew the roof off the 3Arena'.

Industry Quotes:

“Furlong is an assured & engaging solo performer with an expressive, flexible voice & dextrous guitar playing…helping pioneer a superior form of literate, contemporary song-based music for attentive listeners…His elegant lyrics range over a myriad of subjects… That said, Furlong also delivered accessible, snappy tunes…” Jackie Hayden – Renowned Irish Music Journalist and CBS Marketing Manager (masterminding marketing campaigns for Dylan, Leonard Cohen, ABBA, The Clash & Paul Simon).

“Furlong has a style that is very unique and certainly makes him stand out on the contemporary singer-songwriter scene. The fact he is an outstanding guitar player certainly helps but it’s in the songs that the real magic lies”. – Brendan Keane-Storytellers.

WEXFORD singer/songwriter Ronan Furlong's chart-topping video single 'Hoplite Armour' was shortlisted for the Paris Music Video Underground Festival and was considered for the 'Best of the Best Awards' in Los Angeles later in the year. David tucker Wexford People

New Artist Name

Just thought I'd let people know im releasing 3 albums under my other artist name David N Slater and not Musical Artizan There shall be no singles on this, albums only.

How this came about is quite unusual I made a mistake when releasing an album earlier on in the year.

Rather than take it down and re-release with the corrected name I decided to leave it alone.

So now months later I'm releasing some work under this other name, which of course is my real name.

There are 3 albums one is an all piano exotic scales work the 2nd is a choral choir SATB work and the last is a set of orchestral works

The albums due out in march next year. Are: 1) Piano Collection, 2)  Experimental Chorus  and 3) Romancing Angelica.

I took the decision to use Exotic Scales. For some I used the same scale throughout, for others, I changed scales fairly often in the same work this is what distingushes these works from my normal works at Musical Artizan. They should all have a rather different sound from what your all used to from me.

I would interested in any feedback in the comments

Ronan's album Minerva's Meddling was rated by

Hotpress https://www.hotpress.com/

as one of their top 20 albums of the year in 2017, coming in at Number 18, a chart topped by one Mr. Robert Plant

Ronan quotes on Diotima's Ascent:

"First of all, from a purely musical perspective I wanted the Album to be as diverse as possible to engage the listener. To achieve this I explored a broad range of musical styles and lyrical themes. For example, there is an eclectic range of guitar styles on display from Irish/Celtic style guitar on "Treasures and Fountains" and "the Silver Torc", to the distinctly Spanish/Eastern tones on "The Trap" and "Samarkand".

In terms of the overall approach, the intention was to inject as much energy as possible into the songs, with the electric guitar being used throughout to instill potency and a sense of adventure where appropriate (e.g. "The Jupiter Express" and "Gweedore"). I also used a number of different guitar tunings to each song a distinctive vibe from its predecessor.

I wanted to bring a level of commitment to the singing to breath ownership and conviction into the lyrics and provide the songs with a sense of passion and urgency (e.g. "The Glass Ceiling" and "Will You Come To Meet Me?"). I also adopted a persona for some of the songs to allow me depart from my usual vocal style (e.g. "The Jupiter Express"). There is a strong sense of escapism in some of the songs (e.g. "Samarkand") with space and the wider universe also being explored in "Hades Nebula" and "Forged Inside a Dying Star" which are aimed skyward. Songs such as "The Trap" and "The Glass Ceiling" explore more earthy practical "day to day" challenges that we all face in our lives.

The drumming varies from song to song from Jazzy styles to more aggressive approach in "Will You Come to Meet Me?" (described by Hotpress as "Keith Moon" style drumming, a comparison I will take all day!).

In summary, the overriding goal was for each listener to get a sense of escapism and adventure from the songs, with contrasting styles, thought provoking lyrics and strong musicianship on display. Ultimately the hope was that the songs would stimulate the imagination and provide an opportunity for escapism and hopefully lead the listener down fresh avenues to explore."

Introducing SUNKISSED Veronica Fusaro

VERONICA FUSARO

EN Bio

In the quiet remoteness of her home recording studio, Veronica Fusaro developed her characteristic soul pop sound and the bluntness of her songs. Influenced by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Tracy Chapman and Lana Del Rey, Fusaro first stepped into the spotlight in 2016 with her self-produced EP ‘Lost In Thought’ and surprised the Swiss music industry by winning the ‘Demo of the Year’ at the prominent national M4Music Festival. Also awarded ‘Best Talent’ by the national radio station SRF3, she was subsequently nominated for a Swiss Music Award in 2017.

Her second EP ‘ICE COLD’ was released in February 2018 and she performed a single from it entitled ‘Better If I Go’ at the Swiss Music Awards in Zurich and two days later at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Touring ever since, Fusaro’s music has matured and gained her many new admirers along the way. In all, Veronica performed almost 140 shows in 2018, a number that’s not bound to decrease in 2019. On stages large and small, from New Zealand to the UK and back to Switzerland, she has captivated audiences by building sound structures with live multi-instrumental loops, playing with her band or simply by standing at the front edge of the stage playing her songs using just her guitar and affecting voice. Being the support act for Mark Knopfler in the amphitheater in NĂ®mes, Eagle-Eye Cherry on 11 dates in France, Ibeyi in London, playing Glastonbury 2019 and playing at the opening night of the renomated Baloise Session in Basel, Switzerland, mark only a few of the many highlights of her young career.

Following ‘Lost in Thought’ and ‘ICE COLD’, ‘Sunkissed’ is Fusaro’s third EP. With its sixties soul beat and nods to Dusty Springfield and Adele, the world of ‚Sunkissed’ is a deeper dive into the world of soul music, which very much enhances Veronica’s voice - skillfully balancing between the depth and playfulness of her music: pure, powerful and intimate.

Introducing Ezra Tennen - Last Night

Ezra Tennen is tired of the monotonous bland state of pop and is ready to get back to euphoric bops drenched in catchy hooks, candy coated choruses and pure pop escapism.

Ezra has played countless dorm rooms, campus bars, and house parties to a growing audience. What is a caprice in music ??

Caprice : a piece of music, fairly free in form and of a lively character. The typical capriccio is one that is fast, intense and virtuoso in nature.

One example of a famous Caprice is Paganini's Caprice 24

The following is a copy of their facebook bio which I have translated in google translate

Translation

The minimum requirement for the music conservatory in Copenhagen is an education in music. Fortunately, Martin did not meet this requirement, as he and Fredrik only have a bachelor's degree as a music teacher. This meant that the band that was only going to be a project to test play at the conservatory got a more permanent status, and got the name Specific Moments. Ben and Kenny came along as well, as a stable and safe rhythm section. This combination of musicians creates a genre , understanding and musical direction that is unique in band music. Specific Moments is influenced by the positive and the danceable, and has as a philosophy that no matter how dark themes are written about, there should always be a "silver lining".

Atonal Piano and Strings

Atonal music is a generalizing term used to define music that seems to lack a clear tonal centre. Nearly all music in the western classical tradition is considered 'tonal': that is, its harmonic structure is primarily triadic and hierarchically organized around a prominent tonal centre

I do my best work when I cobble things together, if had tried to plan this I would not have been able to make it work.

If you dont know the difference watch this little video.

Here is what the score looks like.

new blog

Well its 20 to 4 in the morning and I've just moved all my artists blogs away from my merchandise blog on to this new Artist Blog.

Listening to songs from my heartache and love playlist.

Got my headphones on too (Bluetooth is awesome)

Sunday tomorrow so  I'm going to mum's for breakfast, then church.

Church is a major part of my life.

Sunday morning during the worship is when I pen my daretobelieve blog source material. I say source material but the words just form in my head. I just tidy up punctuation and spelling at home the next day.

When things are flowing, punctuation and spelling are the last things I need to think about.

I have 29 blogs already written which are still in draft mode.
So Im ahead of myself when it comes to material.

I plan to read them over some suitable composed music. So thats my next project over the next few months. Not sure how many? As long as it takes I suppose !!

Well that's me done, for now at least.

Bye see you in the next blog.
