Ronan Furlong's great new single

The Silver Torc was chosen by Irish hero MMA fighter Richard Kiely as his signature walkout music. Ronan played the song LIVE, in front of an anticipated 9,000 people when Richard fought London based Michael Venoma Page at the 3Arena, Dublin on 27th September, and to a global TV audience.

Richard quotes: 'I am a huge fan of Ronan Furlong's music and I am honoured that he allowed me to use his song for my walkout music. I needed a song that would match the fierce energy and fervour that the Irish crowd bring. When I heard The Silver Torc, I instantly knew I had found that song. After the opening chords hit, the song blew the roof off the 3Arena. It's an absolute belter of a tune.'

Irish singer songwriter Ronan Furlong displays an approach to song writing that is refreshingly unique and instantly recognisable. Weaving a beguiling tapestry of intricate guitar work, idiosyncratic lyrics and heart-felt vocals, Ronan's songs are strikingly original, exploring a broad range of philosophical themes in a fresh and contemporary fashion.

Great review of Diotima's Ascent by renowned music journalist Jackie Hayden for Hotpress:
Album Review: Ronan Furlong, Diotima's Ascent | Hotpress

Ronan; a renowned guitarist is regarded as one of the finest at his craft in Ireland and has received global airplay. The video for his song "Hoplite Armour", was nominated for International awards and the song reached Number 1 on the Irish iTunes chart!
Ronan's album Minerva's Meddling was rated by

Hotpress https://www.hotpress.com/

as one of their top 20 albums of the year in 2017, coming in at Number 18, a chart topped by one Mr. Robert Plant

Ronan quotes on Diotima's Ascent:

"First of all, from a purely musical perspective I wanted the Album to be as diverse as possible to engage the listener. To achieve this I explored a broad range of musical styles and lyrical themes. For example, there is an eclectic range of guitar styles on display from Irish/Celtic style guitar on "Treasures and Fountains" and "the Silver Torc", to the distinctly Spanish/Eastern tones on "The Trap" and "Samarkand".

In terms of the overall approach, the intention was to inject as much energy as possible into the songs, with the electric guitar being used throughout to instill potency and a sense of adventure where appropriate (e.g. "The Jupiter Express" and "Gweedore"). I also used a number of different guitar tunings to each song a distinctive vibe from its predecessor.

I wanted to bring a level of commitment to the singing to breath ownership and conviction into the lyrics and provide the songs with a sense of passion and urgency (e.g. "The Glass Ceiling" and "Will You Come To Meet Me?"). I also adopted a persona for some of the songs to allow me depart from my usual vocal style (e.g. "The Jupiter Express"). There is a strong sense of escapism in some of the songs (e.g. "Samarkand") with space and the wider universe also being explored in "Hades Nebula" and "Forged Inside a Dying Star" which are aimed skyward. Songs such as "The Trap" and "The Glass Ceiling" explore more earthy practical "day to day" challenges that we all face in our lives.

The drumming varies from song to song from Jazzy styles to more aggressive approach in "Will You Come to Meet Me?" (described by Hotpress as "Keith Moon" style drumming, a comparison I will take all day!).

In summary, the overriding goal was for each listener to get a sense of escapism and adventure from the songs, with contrasting styles, thought provoking lyrics and strong musicianship on display. Ultimately the hope was that the songs would stimulate the imagination and provide an opportunity for escapism and hopefully lead the listener down fresh avenues to explore."

Editors Notes:

Ronan has developed a style that is very much his own, shedding fresh light on ancient core themes of the human condition and re-exploring timeless narratives from a contemporary perspective. As a former student of famed Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriella, he has acquired a reputation as a guitarist of renown and uses his skills to enhance and compliment his songs using subtle lines and clever licks.

This highly original artist always produces unique, thoughtful music infused with melody and a style that is entirely his own. In a live setting he always provides an eclectic and energetic show and takes time to explain the underlying meaning of his unique songs to involve his audience int the performance."
