Roma Sheth releases her single Come Free

Roma Sheth - Washington DC- releases her single 'Come Free' across all major streaming platforms today, May 28th, 2021. Working with The Online Recording Studio, Roma has self-produced the original track and is excited to be sharing a piece with the world that is truly hers. With inspiration from Lana Del Ray, the new release has a mysterious ambience heavy on reverb and bass. It most likely falls into the genre of alternative and indie-pop but is unique in that it can't fit neatly into any single genre.

"My style of music varies from song to song. Once I have a guitar, piano melody, or a beat to go off of, I let whatever comes out come out. Some of my songs are slow, some are upbeat, some are acoustic, and others are more electronic-based. My style of performance is very humanistic. I try to relate to my audience and engage with them, to bring down the barrier between them and me." - Roma Sheth.

Come Free, Roma's newest single is centred around feeling conflicted about different relationships in her life. The narrative of the lyrics follows different stages of connection, such as the line “release your piece of my soul” which describes how when love is so powerful, it can completely take over. Whereas the line “can’t believe those demon eyes knew me once upon a time” also reflects back in time, describing the feeling of regret that can come at the end of a toxic relationship. Roma wanted to create an abstract feeling to the song, where she didn't like the lyrics to make perfect sense to a listener. Creatively, the goal was to deliver a mysterious component to the song, both in the lyrics and music, which she achieved independently.

Send More, Roma's debut single, released in early 2021, follows a similar narrative of feeling trapped in a relationship where half of you is drawn in, and the other half wants to get out. The juxtaposition of the lyrics “send more of you” and “I’m in chains I can’t escape” illustrate that feeling. Musically, the significant chord progression and drums contrast with some of the darker lyrics, which showcases the emotion within the track.

Music has always been such a special part of Roma's life, as she began writing songs on piano and guitar from the age of 14. However, Roma began to pour herself into writing when the pandemic hit, building up an original track portfolio. With these tracks ready to go, she decided that it was time to share her music with the world by building a small bedroom studio and teaching herself how to produce. Roma has called the experience the best decision she has ever made and has helped push her forward with pursuing her music professionally.

Currently, a full-time college student, Roma’s main driving force for music is her Indian heritage, where she feels there is a huge lack of representation of South Asians in the music industry. Roma believes that achieving success within the industry would help to empower other South Asian girls to pursue music, or whatever it is that they love, which is an issue close to her heart. Pursuing this passion, Roma is currently in the process of creating new tracks, with an EP coming in the near future.
